As part of this search, we are seeking a TRAFFIC ENGINEER I for our ATLANTA office for MAY 2018 .

Position Description: This position will be an important hire to help grow our Traffic Engineering practice. Position will report to Senior Transportation Engineer and serve as production lead for traffic engineering projects, with the expectation that the candidate will assume task management and basic project management roles within two to three years.

The candidate should have experience working in groups and have a desire to participate in collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment as the traffic engineering group in our Atlanta office works closely with the planning, environmental, civil engineering and roadway design groups. The candidate should have initiative and a strong desire for learning and sharing knowledge.

The successful candidate will work on traffic engineering tasks and projects including performing intersection and corridor operational analysis, evaluating existing signal operations, signal timing analysis and implementation/fine tuning, recommending equipment upgrades, performing signal design and ITS design, actively managing groups of traffic signals through both field and remote management, performing Data Analytics / assisting with developing Performance Metrics and regular reports, evaluating Signal Performance Metrics to enact operational changes, managing municipal and state clients, developing cost estimates, signing and pavement marking plans, complete street concept development, and technical report writing.

This opportunity is available for a college student in good standing who has completed a BACHELOR OR MASTERS OF SCIENCE IN CIVIL ENGINEERING with a focus on transportation engineering at an accredited program. The candidate will gain TRAFFIC ENGINEERING experience under direct supervision of Professional Engineers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Application of policies, standards, details, specifications, and design guides from different jurisdictions

  • Assist with developing and implementing operational plans to maximize the efficiency and safety of intersections controlled by traffic signals

  • Assist with the analysis of data and transportation facilities, making improvement recommendations for corridors, intersections, and areas

  • Analysis of improvement alternatives, interpreting results and identifying engineering issues

  • Perform field visits to assist with data collection and developing inventories of existing and proposed transportation infrastructure

  • Writing technical reports summarizing all aspects of the projects

  • Developing construction cost estimates, graphics, plans, presentations, and other deliverables for demonstration to our clients and the public

  • Gathering information on external projects for coordination with ongoing internal projects

  • Collection, organization, research & analysis of project data

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum experience required: Summer Internship in Traffic Engineering or equivalent

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field from accredited university

  • Engineer Intern (EI) certification is required

  • Hands-on experience with traffic engineering software Synchro required

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint required

  • The candidate should have strong verbal and written communication skills

  • The selected candidate must be able to work in the United States immediately

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in Civil Engineering / Transportation Engineering from accredited university

  • Desired Experience: 1 year

  • Experience in ITS design, traffic signal timing, fiber optic network design, and traffic signal design

  • Experience in intersection, lighting, pavement marking, and signing design

  • Experience in and knowledge of with traffic signal timing concepts, theory, software, and application

  • Knowledge of Advanced Traffic Signal Performance Metrics is preferred.

  • Prior experience with City of Atlanta and GDOT policies, standards, and practices

  • Knowledge and experience with any of the following software is a plus: HCS+, Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, VISUM, Vistro, Microstation, GEOPAK, GuidSign, SignCAD, Arcady, ArcGIS, Sidra, Rodel, Microsoft Access, SQL, Oracle, ITS Architecture Software (SET-IT and ARC-IT), Systems Engineering, or Traffic Signal Controller software such as TACTICS and MaxTime
